Boundless luck our fortune now brings

Sneaker waves pound a slate grey shore
Where the woman stands-
sighs-
clutches her belly.
A wave drowns her cold bare feet-
love-
Then recedes to catch an otter by surprise-
death.
If fear is recognizing the sameness
of opposites
then wisdom is the blurring
of a line
and the smoothing of
one shiny pebble.

In the stolen hour before dawn
every life is equal
Plants stretch open, anticipating
the next crucial sequal
Husband and son asleep snore softly
demands not yet spoken-
But I and my tea watch the sunrise
with a peace unbroken.
